LOS ANGELES, CA — This October, the storied private salon tradition returns to West Hollywood when Spur Projects—the curatorial platform founded by collectors and tastemakers Frank and Jessica Lonergan—joins forces with Los Cabos, Baja California AMVLETO to present Del Zoológico de Moctezuma (From Moctezuma's Zoo), an immersive exhibition of new works by Mexican artist and polymath Christian Poire. The exhibition takes its name from one of history's most extraordinary and elusive wonders: Moctezuma's menagerie—a place where jaguars, flamingos, serpents, and exotic birds coexisted under the care of the Aztec emperor as living emblems of a sacred cosmology. Witnessed with awe and disbelief by Spanish conquistadors, the zoo was consumed by fire in the violence of conquest, its symbolic universe reduced to ash and fragmented memory. From those ruins, Poire conjures an arresting visual world.
Working across drawing, oil painting, and mosaic, Poire constructs what might be called a contemporary visual alphabet—one that revisits myth, ancestral narrative, and the enduring power of images that survive erasure. Flamingos reappear as emblems of beauty shaped by colonial histories. Geometric motifs and traces of fire move through the compositions like recurring dreams. Fragments of landscape and Mesoamerican cosmology surface beneath layers of ornament, resisting oblivion with quiet insistence. Each surface becomes a field of inscription: a place where history, myth, and memory converge.

Rather than a linear narrative, the exhibition proposes a constellation of images that mirrors the contemporary condition of remembering—layered, incomplete, and charged with meaning. "Del Zoológico de Moctezuma reflects upon the images that inhabit us," writes AMVLETO founder and art advisor Daniela Garcia Romero, whose curatorial practice is rooted in the founding ethos of her gallery: the amulet as an object of protection, memory, and ancestral significance. "Those we inherit, those power seeks to erase, and those that endure. In Poire's work, even among ruins, beauty re-emerges as an act of enchantment, remembrance, and promise."
The partnership between Spur Projects and AMVLETO brings together two platforms committed to intimate, ideas-driven engagement with art and collecting. The Fall 2026 SPUR SALON opens with a VIP Collector Dinner and Artist Reception on the evening of Friday, October 2, followed by a hosted salon open to invited guests on Saturday, October 3 (2:00–6:00 PM) and Sunday, October 4 (11:00 AM–3:00 PM). All events are held at a private residence in West Hollywood, Los Angeles. Works from the exhibition are available for private preview and acquisition beginning August 3, 2026. Collectors, curators, and press are encouraged to schedule appointments in advance.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Christian Poire is a Mexico City-based artist and polymath whose practice encompasses drawing, painting, and mosaic. His work occupies a territory between the ancestral and the contemporary, weaving Mesoamerican visual culture, colonial history, and modern design into an intricate system of signs. Poire's compositions resist oblivion by recovering images that persist beneath the surface of time—symbols and cosmologies in which death is understood not as destruction, but as transformation and continuity. @christianpoire
